“ Ice cream is smooth, rich in flavor, and outstanding! Service is fabulous. I traveled an hour to splurge on Melba! ”
“ Located in downtown Lawrenceville, this creamery is along a strip of food joints which makes it a perfect after dinner pit stop. Ice cream flavors are well varied with few vegan options thrown in and although some of the flavors seem to sweet I was pleasantly surprised by how well balanced it was ”
“ The best place to go for a sweet treat in the summer! Melba has so many unique ice cream flavors to choose from it's hard to pick just one! The staff is great and let you sample as many flavors as you would like. My personal favorite is the mango sorbet and make sure to ask for the tajin on top! They also have new specials often and the day we came in it was Thai iced tea soft serve which was lovely. The interior has a retro feel to it and there are few tables to enjoy your ice cream inside. ”
“ this vibes here are so darling cutie vintage :) the workers were nice and they let you try samples before buying. I got the lemon blueberry and peach cobbler flavors. peach cobbler was sooo good. especially if you're a fan of cheesecake. The lemon blueberry was yummy as well but the blueberry in my scoop was very overpowering, sweet, and icy. I probably would've liked it better if I got more of the lemon custard in the scoop. such a cute spot for ice cream with both classic and creative flavors. ”
“ I held off on writing this review for over a year. Last year, we visited when Melba was new, and I ordered an ice cream sundae made with the Purple Cow ice cream. The sundae itself was incredibly disappointing and almost gross, because the person who made it put way too much hot fudge in (yes, there is such a thing as too much hot fudge) and the Purple Cow flavor was not how I remembered it being. I couldn't finish it. I loved the old Purple Cow shop and I love Gingered Peach, so I didn't leave a negative review and I was willing to give them another chance. We gave them another chance today and all I can say is WOW! My tastebuds are blown away! I ordered a flight which included a scoop of the S'mores, Moon Rocks, Lemon Blueberry, and the Strawberry Buttermilk Cheesecake. The flavors were amazing and packed a punch. It's really hard to even pick a favorite because they were all so good. The only (minor) downside is that because the weather is hot, I had to kind of eat quickly, otherwise my ice cream would have turned to soup. The young lady who served us was friendly and helpful, and the store is similar but slightly more upscale on the inside than it was under the old owners. We enjoyed our ice cream out on the porch. Melba has more than redeemed itself in my book, and I look forward to our next visit! ”
“ I've been trying to get here almost since they opened. Their hours did not coincide with the few times I passed by on my way home from Princeton. Once, on a hot spring afternoon I purposely drove here within their open hours, but they were mysteriously closed. The stars aligned last night and we were able to sample after dining out nearby. My first impression was the lack of a dark chocolate choice. The one option in the case was grey colored as it was an Oreos flavor, that wasn't what I was looking for. The flavors were a bit unique, but I was at a loss as to which 2 flavors I could pair together. On a whim I decided on a strawberry buttermilk cheese cake and was pleased with it. A REAL strawberry flavor, almost like someone's homemade jam was throughout, along with veins of graham cracker crust. The buttermilk gave it extra cream flavor with a nice tang. I'd get again. My date chose the cornbread flavor, it's served with warm honey on the top. We both liked that a lot too. They do also offer vegan and more standard ice cream flavors as a sign indicated. Armed with the knowledge gained from this first trip, I have a few pairing ideas now and will likely be back. Interior wise it's the same feel as it's predecessor, maybe more seating now? I hear it can get very busy on weekends. Nice customer service ”
“ A gem and we're lucky to have this in our town. Today I tried the ube ice cream and I must say it's the best I've ever had! Ube is a Filipino flavor, it's made from purple yam from the Philippines. Previously I tried their Thai Iced Tea Soft Serve and Lavender Honeycomb, both delicious and unique flavors! I love the interior and the overall look of Melba, really feels like home. ”
“ Went to Melba for an evening treat and it's such a cute ice cream shop! Definitely worth to check out. They have seating outside so it's nice for a nice summer evening. I had the guava cheesecake which was so good! The staff is really nice and helpful! Will definitely go back to try other things. They also have vegan options. ”
“ I've heard so many good things about this new local ice creamery I just had to come and try it out. The flavors weren't your average or basic, but they had those if you wanted them too. The ice cream was so good and they staff was extremely friendly, the owner even came out & served us herself. Inside was very clean and cute, with seated to the side to get sunlight along with outside seating as well. Very packed and busy which is a good indicator that their ice cream is very good. Can't wait to come back & try different ice cream options along with shakes & some of the baked goods. ”
“ This is a must visit ice cream shop, great for people of all ages! Another gem in Lawrenceville alongside The Gingered Peach, Melba's decor pays homage to the prior Purple Cow shop that preceded it, but brings its own flare and finesse to the ice cream game. They offer classic, old-school, innovative, and creative flavors with plenty of options for those who are vegan or lactose intolerant as well. Everything from the scoops, to sundaes, milkshakes, and flights are fairly priced. They also have an egg cream soda which makes their menu even more unique. Some flavors are staples on the menu while others are seasonal and or rotated. I highly recommend the Jumpin' Johnnie ice cream, but the staff is very generous in the attention they give you as a customer while you decide on which scoop or scoops you want. Samples are available as well as staff recommendations. ”
